Drive Sober This Holiday Season

Christmas and the holiday season are a great time to get together with friends and family and enjoy each other’s company. There is so much going on, from shopping, cooking and parties. With all the running around people often forget to take care of themselves and think about what’s in their best interest.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports that there is an increase in the amount of DUIs and drunk driving related injuries and deaths during the holiday season. In December 2016, 781 people were killed in auto accidents as a result from drunk driving.

To combat this and bring more attention to the fight against drunk driving, NTHSA has scheduled to begin their “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” drunk driving prevention campaign from Dec. 13 through 31. They will be on major highways and roads near cities on the look out.

If you do choose to enjoy a drink this holiday season, please be smart. There are certain ways to avoid these fatal accidents and they are simple.

For starters, plan ahead. If you know you are going to a holiday party and will be drinking, get yourself a designated driver either at the party or someone who will pick you up and drop you off. There is no sense in risking your life and the life of others because you do not want to find a ride.

Another option is to use the many available ride share services. The major leaders in this new way of transportation are Uber and Lyft. These ride share services are easy to use, respond quickly and are usually cheaper than a taxi cab company. You can order them right from your smart phone.

If you are the host of the party, you are also responsible for your guests and their actions. You need to be a good host and keep everyone safe. Don’t let your friend drive after they have been drinking. Not only are you putting their life in danger, you would be legally responsible as well.

There are many ways to prevent drinking and driving this holiday season. It is never okay to drive drunk and you might cost someone else their life. Be smart this holiday season, don’t drink and drive.

Its easy to spot a drunk driver, contact local law enforcement if you notice someone driving recklessly or sloppy on the roads. If you find yourself in this situation and get caught, you will need help. More than likely you will need to obtain an SR-22 or Financial Responsibly insurance plan. These plans will give you the proof you need so you can legally drive again and be protected.
