You do not need a valid driver’s license to file an SR22. High-risk drivers are able to file an SR22 without a valid driver’s license. SR22 providers understand that in some cases, proof of insurance is needed in order for a license to be valid.
Your SR22 provider will start your high-risk car insurance policy. However, you will only have a couple of weeks to get your license in good standing and notify the insurance company.
If you do not reinstate your driver’s license, your SR22 insurance policy will be canceled. If this happens, you will need to start the SR22 filing process all over again.
If you were never issued a driver’s license, the state of Illinois will assign your case a number that you may use to file an SR22.
